may 31, 2012 lunch

wow. i couldn't even finish this. i did eat the salad (same as yesterday), plus coleslaw, a turkey burger patty, and the other half of the avocado. halfway through the coleslaw (shredded purple cabbage and carrot, diced red onion, homemade mayo, dry mustard, pepper), i realized that my turkey burger had puffed up in the microwave and was actually hollow! (i pan-fried it last night, and put a bunch of spices on top, including cayenne, paprika, garlic powder, italian seasoning, and lots and lots of pepper.) it looked like a little puffed-up puri!

puri

i decided to stuff the turkey patty with avocado and eat it with the remaining coleslaw. it was tangy and creamy and spicy and lovely. i think i've discovered a new lunch favorite! i was plenty sated after that, but in a good, not overstuffed way.

sorry, noush and carrots, another time!

may 31, 2012 breakfast

today's breakfast is just a little more gussied up than yesterday's. i had an avocado that was on its way out, so i took it to work with me. it turned out to be perfect, so half of it topped my standard egg loaf. add cholula and chow down!

may 30, 2012 lunch

and here's lunch! very veggie-dominant today. awesome salad with red leaf lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, kalamatas, orange bell peppers, and red onion, topped with a homemade vinaigrette. then there are obviously a bunch of carrots, next to homemade baba ghanouj. up top, the soot sprite is perched on a bowl of roasted red pepper and spinach chicken sausages (casual gourmet brand - very clean, no nitrates, msg or gluten for those with allergies, like my husband. i found them at costco) sauteed with a mess of rainbow chard, onions and garlic.

also, i should mention that this lunch was prepared by the husband and not me. credit given!

may 30, 2012 breakfast

breakfast at work: egg loaf w/ nitrate-free bacon, zucchini, spinach, roasted red peppers, green onions, garlic, spices (basically the egg cupcakes from everyday paleo except done in a casserole instead of muffin tins - easier to clean) generouly doused with cholula.

susuwatari (soot sprite) looks on tentatively.

orca launch

let me extend a warm, crab-eatin'-orca welcome to you, fellow eater. hope you're a food voyeur, because this experiment in documenting what i eat is going to be chock fulla food photos. sure, i hope doing this will encourage me to eat healthfully, but i'm also determined not to lose sight of the real reasons why we eat - to nourish our bodies, sustain our energy, and for the sensory delight and satisfaction when we have a particularly nom nom meal.

and so i'm doing this as an alternative to the standard food diary. i've done those, and they suck all the enjoyment out of cooking and eating and appreciating food. so rather than count calories, i'm going to count all the delicious ways i can prepare food! if the occasional less-than-stellar meal sneaks in, i'm not going to sweat it. i'm aiming for a realistic and balanced plate that makes my belly happy.

happy eating!
